Sen. Nickles Picked to Head GOP Platform Committee

WASHINGTON — Sen. Don Nickles, an Oklahoma conservative, was named chairman of the 1992 GOP platform committee Wednesday. His appointment by the Republican National Committee was seen as a gesture to the party’s right wing at a time when President Bush faces a primary challenge from conservative commentator Patrick J. Buchanan.
