ABC announced two senior level appointments at its television network and hinted that more management changes are forthcoming. The announcements come as senior ABC executives prepare to meet for their annual management conference in Phoenix next week.
In a surprise move, the network elevated a longtime advertising executive to the No. 2 position that oversees the high-profile entertainment, news and sports divisions.
George Cain was named senior vice president of the ABC Television Network Group, succeeding Stephen A. Weisswasser, who last October was appointed executive vice president at ABC News.
Cain, 47, will coordinate various areas within the Network Group, including entertainment, news, sports, research and engineering.
In a concurrent announcement, ABC said that Marvin F. Goldsmith, 50, has been promoted to the newly created position of president of sales and marketing for the ABC TV Network. Goldsmith had been senior vice president and general sales manager.
Goldsmith assumes responsibilities formerly handled by H. Weller (Jake) Keever, who last month announced his retirement.
