A Chula Vista woman was sentenced to five years in prison for retaliation against a government witness, U.S. Atty. William Braniff said Wednesday.
Judy Smith, 35, was sentenced Tuesday for her conviction last year for conspiracy to tamper with and retaliate against a witness. As a result of the conspiracy, a witness testifying against Smith in a drug case was beaten and taken to Mexico and Northern California, Braniff said. The witness failed to testify in the case, and drug charges against Smith were dropped.
Under the law, five years is the maximum sentence Smith could have received, Braniff said.
