Brad Fabel, one of the few afternoon starters to finish his round, birdied the last two holes for a seven-under-par 64 and tied Dan Forsman for the lead as the Phoenix Open was once again unable to complete the opening round. This time, 21 players in a trimmed-down field of 132 were stranded by darkness on the TPC at Scottsdale. They marked their positions and were due to return this morning to finish first-round play.
