San Fernando High running back LaKarlos Townsend has committed to play next season at Ohio University, joining backfield mate Brian Brison, who also has committed to play at the Athens school.
Townsend (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) began the season in startling fashion and was on pace to break several school single-season records before he was slowed by a sprained knee at midseason.
In 10 games, he rushed for 875 yards, 18 touchdowns and averaged nine yards a carry. Townsend also took a recruiting trip to Oregon State and canceled a scheduled Thursday visit to USC.
Townsend said he was told that he likely will open the season as Ohio’s second-string tailback. The Bobcats, who compete in the Mid-American Conference, employ an I-formation attack.
