Alhambra : Unified Schools Opposed
The Alhambra Teachers Assn. said this week that it opposes the unification of the San Gabriel School District because it would weaken Alhambra schools.
Alhambra would be forced to reduce course offerings at its high schools and retool its curriculum if the reorganization is approved, Teachers Assn. President Judy Bailey said in a statement.
Last December, the State Board of Education gave San Gabriel permission to hold a unification election.
San Gabriel students currently attend high school in Alhambra, and a vote to unify would allow San Gabriel to build its own high school.
Meanwhile, Alhambra school officials, who oppose the unification, have asked the State Board of Education to reconsider allowing the April 14 election.
