WILD IN THE STREETS

I work on a hot line that receives thousands of calls each year from adults who have difficulty with parenting and with abusive behavior. Reading “Wild in the Streets” (by Elliott Currie, Dec. 15) confirms how difficult it is for children who are abused to relinquish their role as victims. When a parent is regularly abusive, children come to expect and rely on the behavior.
When are we going to realize that parenting is an extremely important yet difficult job? We need to take the stigma out of getting help and provide training to parents that is accessible and affordable.
