Suspect Sought in Shooting Death of Man

The body of a 49-year-old man was discovered Sunday morning in a remote patch of brush near Poway, and San Diego Sheriff’s Department officials said they were searching for a 22-year-old man in connection with the killing.

The victim’s body was discovered about 8 a.m. Sunday, north of the Green Valley Truck Trail about half a mile east of Espola Road, deputies said. The man had been shot to death, deputies said, declining to release a name pending notification of relatives.

Relatives had reported the man missing Friday, deputies said. His car turned up Saturday, parked on Oak Knoll Road, east of Carriage Road, deputies said.

A man fitting the description of Jamel Bernard, 22, was seen walking away from the car, deputies said, adding that detectives believe Bernard killed the man. The two had been involved in a long-running dispute over a “personal matter,” deputies said, declining to elaborate.
