Helping a Friend: Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder and Michael McDonald are set to perform at a concert Thursday at the Palace, benefiting keyboardist William (Smitty) Smith, who is recovering from a stroke he suffered Jan. 1. There will be shows at 7 and 10 p.m. Smith has toured and recorded with Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt and others.
