Schering-Plough Corp., maker of drugs and health care products, said its net income rose 14% to $149.0 million in the fourth quarter of 1991.
The Madison, N.J.-based company said the strong performance was due to healthy worldwide pharmaceutical and health care sales.
It said its fourth-quarter earnings of 71 cents a share compared to earnings of $130.6 million, or 58 cents a share, a year earlier.
Its 1991 earnings rose to $645.6 million, or $3.01 a share, from $565.1 million, or $2.50 a share, in 1990.
Schering-Plough Chairman Robert Luciano said worldwide pharmaceutical sales and health care product sales last year rose 12% and 17%, respectively.
The company said fourth-quarter sales were $865.6 million, compared to $800.0 million a year ago. The year’s sales were $3.616 million, compared to $3.323 in 1990.
