Ban Imposed on Tuna Imports: After a compromise between the federal government and environmental groups collapsed, a judge ordered enforcement of a tuna embargo on nations believed to be buying tuna from Mexico and Venezuela. Fishing fleets from Mexico and Venezuela have exceeded dolphin-kill rates allowed by U.S. law. The embargo, effective Thursday, would block an estimated 53% of U.S. tuna imports. An industry group has predicted price increases of five to 10 cents a can of tuna in two months.
