53 Fired at Plant Making Implants

MIDLAND, Mich. — Dow Corning Corp. fired 53 workers at a Tennessee plant that makes silicone gel breast implants, citing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s voluntary moratorium on breast implant operations.
The employees at the Arlington, Tenn., plant had been on temporary leave with full pay and benefits since Jan. 6, when the FDA called for the 45-day moratorium.
