Ignacio Bernal y Garcia Pimentel, 81, anthropologist who studied Mexico’s pre-Columbian civilizations. An expert on the Totonac culture of the Gulf of Mexico, Bernal had served as director of the internationally acclaimed National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City from 1962 to 1976. During that time, he served a two-year term as director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History. He taught at Cambridge University in Britain, the Sorbonne in France and in the United States at Harvard University, University of Texas and University of Oregon. On Friday in Mexico City.
