SIMI VALLEY : Historical Society to Get More Space

The Simi Valley Historical Society, which operates a museum and historical park for the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, will have more room for exhibits and storage thanks to the City Council.
The council decided Monday to donate a 3,600-square-foot modular building to the historical society and allocate $30,700 in community block grant funds to help pay for moving the structure from the civic center to Strathearn Historical Park. The park is located at 137 Strathearn Place.
The modular building was formerly occupied by the city Department of Building and Safety, which recently moved into new quarters at City Hall after a remodeling project was completed.
The modular building, valued at about $50,000, includes a conference room, several offices and a lunch counter, according to a city staff report.
Jan Smith of the historical society said the building is expected to be moved in mid-March.
