MISSION VIEJO : Poll on Annexation to Be Released Today
- Share via
Results of a poll asking whether Mission Viejo residents approve of annexing the 7,000-resident Aegean Hills community will be released today.
The release of the results will be followed by a special City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Officials are expected to announce their support of the annexation if the poll shows a majority of residents support adding the unincorporated community.
The council will also consider a resolution to apply to the county Local Agency Formation Commission to annex the area.
Aegean Hills is bordered by Interstate 5 on the west and Mission Viejo to the east. It extends from Los Alisos Boulevard on the north to La Paz Road on the south. Annexing the community would increase the city’s population by 10%.
For several years, many Aegean Hills residents have tried without success to merge with the city. In 1988, the council voted 3 to 2 against annexation.
Armed with a city report that estimates that the annexation would add about $550,000 to Mission Viejo coffers from sales and property tax revenues, the plan was brought back to the council in November, and the mail survey of residents was ordered.
