Dodgers Seek Doughty for Scout Position

Larry Doughty, former general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, was interviewed by Fred Claire Wednesday for a position as a major league scout for the Dodgers.

Doughty, who began his baseball career as a scout, helped the Pirates to consecutive National League East championships before being fired in December because of what the Pirates considered administrative difficulties.

“Larry would be a very good addition in a scouting capacity,” said Claire, Dodger vice president. “Because of expansion, this is an important year in talent evaluation, and he is a capable evaluator of talent.”

Doughty, who has had more than a dozen inquiries about his availability as a scout, will hold further discussions with the Dodgers. His addition would give the Dodgers five major league scouts, the most in baseball.
