A Newhall Municipal Court judge Tuesday ordered a Canyon Country man and his son to stand trial on charges they illegally transported and dumped more than 350 bags of asbestos in the Sand Canyon area.
Earl Jacob (John) Burnett, 58, and his son, Wesley Mitchell Burnett, 32, of Glendale will be arraigned in San Fernando Superior Court on April 13.
The elder Burnett is charged with one count of illegally disposing of hazardous material. He faces up to three years in prison if convicted. His son is charged with two counts of illegally disposing and one count of illegally transporting hazardous materials. He could be sentenced to a maximum of nine years in prison if convicted.
The Burnetts are accused of dumping the material between June and December, 1986, on property once owned by the elder Burnett at Warmuth Road and Rolling Hills Avenue. They operated several construction companies at the time. Both men are free on bail.
