GARDEN GROVE : City Gets $140,000 for Park Renovation

The city has received a grant of $140,000 to renovate or replace a 30-year-old picnic pavilion at Garden Grove Park that officials say may be in danger of falling apart.
Work may be delayed until fall if it is determined that the outdoor complex of stoves, sinks, picnic tables and timber roof can last through the busy summer months, Deputy City Manager Mike Fenderson said.
The money, coming from Orange County’s special district augmentation funds, was earmarked for the park by Supervisor Roger R. Stanton and approved by the board.
The grant initially had been intended for another project that will not be completed and then became available for the 40-acre park on Westminster Avenue between Magnolia and Brookhurst streets, Stanton aide Mike Linares said.
