A 16-year-old boy pleaded innocent to charges of murdering a Fresno State football star and his girlfriend.

Trial for Arthur Eric Phelps was scheduled July 6 in Fresno County Superior Court.

Phelps, who previously was ordered tried as an adult, is charged with fatally shooting Melvin Johnson, 21, and Lisa Kelley, 19, on Jan. 2. Phelps reportedly had dated Kelly but was going with Johnson just before the slayings.

Johnson was an All-Big West offensive guard for the Bulldogs last season. He was killed two days before he was scheduled to leave for the Hula Bowl all-star game in Honolulu.
