SAN CLEMENTE — A San Clemente man who allegedly had a gun and a live hand grenade in his car was arrested Wednesday after he crashed while trying to drive away from officers, police said.
Police Sgt. Richard Corder said investigators received a tip that Robert Thomas Favaro, 24, was allegedly selling drugs from a house in the 1100 block of Calle Del Cerro. A plainclothes police officer tried to talk to Favaro when he left the house, Corder said.
Favaro jumped into a car and drove a few blocks before crashing into a light pole. He was arrested and taken to a local hospital for a head injury.
Investigators searching his car found the hand grenade, Corder said. The Sheriff’s Department bomb unit was called out to dispose of the grenade.
