California IN BRIEF : BORREGO SPRINGS : Small Earthquake Rattles Desert Area

A mild earthquake rattled Southern California’s low desert, but there were no reports of injuries or damage. The magnitude 3.5 jolt at 1:13 p.m. was centered nine miles north-northeast of Borrego Springs in eastern San Diego County, said Robert Finn, spokesman for the Caltech seismology laboratory in Pasadena. Police in Palm Springs and sheriff’s deputies in Borrego Springs said they had received no reports of injury or damage. Finn said he received reports that the quake was felt by some people.
