‘UNRELIEVED GLOOM’

“The only thing he can think of to do with its hero is to have him commit suicide” (In Brief, March 8). Substitute “In Brief” for “he.” Substitute “reader” for “hero.”

Suicide seems to be the least that can be expected by anyone who reads the six books reviewed.

Talk about unrelieved gloom and despair! How’s Michael Harris holding up?
