SAN CLEMENTE — A Fountain Valley teen-ager was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Tuesday night while walking along the railroad tracks between San Clemente and Oceanside, authorities said.
Sou Houekc Yean, 16, a junior at Fountain Valley High School, was killed shortly after 8 p.m. about four miles north of the Las Pulgas Road off-ramp, according to a report by Chuck Bolton, a San Diego County medical examiner.
Yean had wandered up the tracks and was hit after a car he was riding in with several friends broke down, Bolton said.
“He evidently failed to hear the train and it hit him,” said Bill Leard, a spokesman for the San Diego County coroner’s office. “His death was instantaneous from massive trauma.”
