World all-around champion Kim Zmeskal of the United States had seconds on the balance beam and in floor exercise during qualifying in the World Gymnastics Championships in Paris.
She had a score of 9.9 to place second in floor exercise behind Henrietta Onodi of Hungary, who scored 9.912. On the beam, Zmeskal was edged by Tatiana Gutsu, who had a 9.937, which featured a twisting back somersault. Zmeskal’s score was 9.862.
