Americans Should Be Outraged About ‘El Negro’
- Share via
Doug Cress’ article on “El Negro” (April 16) describes the controversy surrounding the stuffed bushman. Not once does he mention any reaction or protest from anyone in the United States.
It is hard to believe that no American politicians or athletes have taken a stand on this issue. Many of our Olympic athletes are black, yet the only countries threatening to boycott the Games are from Africa.
I think it is time for our government, the USOC and leading black athletes to put pressure on Spain to take down the offensive display. Spain is banking on the many Americans that will be spending money in Barcelona. If the United States threatens a boycott, Spain will say adios to El Negro.
