HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Vista Advances to Bishop Gorman Final

Vista High’s baseball team advanced to the championship game of the Bishop Gorman Classic in Las Vegas with an 8-6 victory over Tucson (Ariz.) Sunnyside on Friday.
The Panthers (11-2-1) reached the Western States Division title game after they fell behind, 6-0, after 1 1/2 innings. Junior first baseman Matt Stone started Vista’s rally with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second. He finished with three hits in as many at bats and drove in four runs.
Friday’s result was a continuation of Thursday’s feats, in which Vista defeated Anaheim Servite, 8-0 and overwhelmed Irvine Woodbridge, 17-0.
Against Servite, Stone (6-1) struck out seven and had a no-hitter going until he gave up a triple in the top of the seventh. He homered and had two RBIs in that game. The Panthers had 15 hits against Woodbridge.
Sunnyside fell to 9-3-1. Vista plays Brea-Olinda at noon at Clark Field.
Gael Easter Classic
Bonita Vista 8, San Gorgonio 3--In another Las Vegas tournament, Bonita Vista improved to 2-0 with the victory. Mike Daniels struck out six and walked four to win. Baron teammates Joe Morales and Ron Battle both were two for three.
Thursday against Las Vegas Chapparal, Bonita Vista’s Randy Robinson (4-0) threw a four-hitter in a 2-1 victory.
