Two former officials of a University of Virginia booster club accused of making loans to athletes in violation of NCAA rules said then-athletic director Dick Schultz knew of the transactions. Schultz, now executive director of the NCAA, said he knew nothing about them.
William J. Rhodes Jr., who was president of the Virginia Student Aid Foundation in 1987, told the Daily Progress of Charlottesville, Va., that Schultz was aware of the loans. Thomas Davenport, a former executive director of the foundation, agreed.
