Questions Intrusive
On March 21, my friends and I drove across the border from Idaho into British Columbia. A Canadian official asked us where we were from and where we were going. After we answered, she told us to go upstairs so her co-workers could check our IDs. The Canadians not only checked our IDs and the rental car agreement, they asked each of us how much cash we had with us. One official asked a friend if we were planning to pool our money since not everyone in the group had “sufficient funds.” I had to show my traveler’s checks and my friend and I had to show our major credit cards, too.
We wouldn’t have minded being checked if the Canadians would have been a little more friendly. We understand the need to check prospective tourists but we felt the questions regarding our finances were intrusive.
