COUNTYWIDE : Sheriff, Firefighters Endorse Gallegly

Seeking to corner the law-and-order vote, Rep. Elton Gallegly on Tuesday announced the endorsement of top law enforcement officials and firefighter organizations for his reelection in the 23rd Congressional District.
Gallegly, a Simi Valley Republican, is seeking a fourth term. He is running in the new district that includes Carpinteria and all of Ventura County except Thousand Oaks.
The congressman was joined Tuesday at the Ventura County Government Center by a handful of supporters, including Ventura County Sheriff John Gillespie, Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury and Ken Maffei, president of the Ventura County Professional Firefighters’ Assn.
The incumbent faces two Republican challengers, Daphne Becker of Ojai and Dr. Robert Shakman of Ventura, in the June 2 primary.
If successful in the primary, Gallegly will run in November against the winner of the Democratic primary--either education consultant Anita Perez Ferguson or Kevin Sweeney, a former press secretary for Sen. Gary Hart (D-Colo.) during Hart’s 1988 presidential campaign.
