Cecilio Espino retained his North American Boxing Federation bantamweight title with a fifth-round technical knockout of Antonio Ramirez at the Forum. Ramirez, who was floored and hurt several times in the fifth, retired in his corner after the round.
Espino (22-2) and Ramirez (12-3-1) are from Los Angeles.
In another bout, Ysaias Zamudio of Blythe, Calif., kept his NABF flyweight title with a technical decision over Richard Clarke of Miami in the eighth round.
Zamudio was cut under the right eye by a head butt. Under NABF rules, Zamudio was awarded the fight based on the three judges’ scorecards.
