COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Rallies From Nine Back to Beat Loyola Marymount, 19-18

Jason White’s single drove in pinch-runner Sam Torreira with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th as Chapman overcame a nine-run deficit for a 19-18 victory over Loyola Marymount Tuesday at Hart Park.
The Panthers (29-16) trailed, 11-2, after 6 1/2 innings, but rallied with 10 runs in the bottom of the eighth, including four on Shawn Nugent’s grand slam.
Loyola Marymount (12-33) scored seven times in the top of the ninth for an 18-12 lead, but Chapman rallied again, scoring six times on Shafer’s two-run double, Nugent’s two-run homer and solo homers by Cliff Anderson and Kevin Monson.
In another nonconference baseball game:
USC 14, UC Irvine 8--Lionel Hastings, a former Mater Dei standout, had four hits and scored twice as the host Trojans (23-21) came up with season highs in runs and hits (19). UCI is 17-22.
In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:
Southern California College 5, Christ College Irvine 3--David Black struck out six in eight innings to earn the victory for the Vanguards (20-19-1, 9-7 in conference). Teammate Justin Pysar was two for four and drove in three runs. Jim Vlcek and Lonnie Zimmerman homered for Christ College Irvine (25-9, 10-4).
In Big West Conference softball:
Cal State Fullerton 1-0, Cal State Long Beach 0-1--Tiffany Boyd (24-5) pitched a two-hitter in the first game for the visiting Titans (33-16, 15-9) to win her 16th consecutive game.
