TOURISM : Marriott Hotels’ Recycling Efforts Are Paying Off
- Share via
The observance Wednesday of Earth Day had special meaning at the Marriott hotels in Orange County.
That’s because this year, their recycling efforts are beginning to pay off. The hotels have collectively cut their total volume of garbage virtually in half since they began their efforts in 1990.
At the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Tennis Club, recyclable newspaper, cardboard, aluminum, glass, plastic and paper are being sorted out from the main trash bins. At the Anaheim Marriott, hundreds of pounds of computer paper generated in the accounting department are being recycled.
Each of the hotels uses more than two tons of paper products each week--from magazines to office paper--that can be sorted for recycling.
