Monrovia : Blakely Is Mayor Pro Tem

The City Council elected Councilwoman Lara Blakely as mayor pro tem Tuesday after swearing in two members, a new city clerk and a new city treasurer.
Blakely was elected to fill the post of mayor in Robert Bartlett’s absence on a 3-2 vote.
New Councilwoman Phyllis McCarville nominated Councilman John Nobrega for the position, but they were outvoted by Bartlett, Blakely and reelected Councilwoman Mary Wilcox.
Commenting on the failure of a police facility tax in last week’s election, Bartlett told the council, “We’re going to find a way to build the facility we need in this city.”
The tax would have funded a $9-million police station.
