The Board of Airport Commissioners has approved an architectural rendering of a sound wall to be built along the south side of 88th Street in Westchester to reduce noise from Los Angeles International Airport in a nearby residential neighborhood.
The barrier will be 2,000 feet long and 20 feet high. It will extend along the south side of 88th Street and 88th Place from Sepulveda Westway to Emerson Avenue.
A six-foot-high decorative block wall will also be built for 1,000 feet along the north side of 88th Street between Sepulveda Westway and Liberator Avenue. An architectural rendering of the decorative block wall will be presented to the city’s Cultural Affairs Commission for approval. Benito A. Sinclair and Associates was awarded an $85,000 design contract by the board last year. The estimated cost of the construction is $1.2 million.
