Williams Named New Police Chief
As an employee of Hughes Aircraft, which like the LAPD has undergone a leadership change at the top involving an outsider, I can understand the disappointment of some members of the department that one of their own was not chosen to replace Gates. I, however, believe their concern about Williams’ lack of knowledge of Los Angeles and California law are misplaced. Williams was hired to manage the LAPD, not patrol the streets; that’s their job.
Like C. Michael Armstrong at Hughes, Williams brings a fresh perspective and impressive credentials to his new job. I’m sure both will do exceptionally well.
