Learning With ‘Life Goes On’

I’m a 25-year-old young man who was born with autism, and I relate to the show “Life Goes On” because Corky, the main character of the show, played by Chris Burke, has Down’s syndrome, like Burke himself. I personally think it’s the best show on TV, but I want Howard Rosenberg to know that his lawyer brother is not alone in liking the show so much (“There’s More to ‘Life’ Than Ratings,” April 18).
Besides, I know a girl at my program, the Adult Skills Center in Van Nuys, who has that disability too. She personally knows Burke because she was an extra on “Life Goes On.”
If ABC does cancel that wonderful show, which I hope never happens, why doesn’t the Family Channel on cable pick it up and make some new episodes? This will tell the many families of Down’s syndrome children, as well as other disabled children, that there’s a lot to learn from a Down’s syndrome child, which is that he still has the ability to make it through life like the rest of us.
