Disneyland President Jack Lindquist has been appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson to the California Tourism Commission, which oversees the state’s tourism marketing program.
Lindquist, 64, already serves on the board of directors of the California Tourism Corp., an industry group. He is also a member of the California Angels Advisory Board and the Travel Industry of America Hall of Leaders.
The Villa Park resident was traveling and could not be reached for comment on the appointment.
The 12-member Tourism Commission was created in 1984 to advise the state Office of Tourism on how to best attract visitors to California.
Lindquist has worked for the Walt Disney Co. since September, 1955, when he took a job as Disneyland’s first advertising manager three months after the park opened. He later held marketing positions at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in Florida.
An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, Lindquist brought the Disneyland Pigskin Classic to Anaheim and has been involved in promoting other sports activities as well.
Also appointed to the tourism commission Thursday was George Kirkland, president of the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau.
