BankAmerica Layoffs Coming: The San Francisco bank, which officially acquired Security Pacific Corp. last Wednesday, said it will lay off up to 1,750 people worldwide from now until the end of May as part of the first wave of expected merger-related job cuts. From 600 to 750 people are expected to receive notices by the end of next week. The bank has said from 10,000 to 12,000 jobs worldwide will be cut within three years as overlapping jobs are eliminated. The two banks combined employed a total of 91,000 people before the merger.
