NFL Isn’t Merely Another Business

In the article, “It Might Be Last Roundup for NFL,” (April 19) lawyer Leigh Steinberg makes the specious statement: “In every other area of the American economy, businesses have to compete for young talent. The NFL draft is so antithetical to the values of the American system that no court would uphold it.”

What Steinberg conveniently leaves out is the fact that in practically every other business in America, failure of all the competition is the goal. Ford certainly would not shed tears if GM, Honda and Chrysler went belly-up. On the other hand, the NFL hardly would be viable if the New York Giants had only themselves to play each week.
