SMALL FACES: Weird Al Yankovic isn’t the only one who’s done a version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Singer-songwriter Tori Amos recorded the song, but as a melodic piano ballad. Already available in England, her version of “Spirit” will be released here May 12 on an EP that features her new single, “Crucify,” and also includes unique renditions of the Rolling Stones’ “Angie” and Led Zep’s “Thank You.” . . .
Another Bruce is making a go without his old band: Bruce Hornsby is recording for the first time without the Range, the band that backed him on his three previous albums. Hornsby is at work in a new studio at his rural Virginia home, staying close to his newborn twin sons. . . .
Bart Simpson got to duet with Michael Jackson, and now papa Homer Simpson takes a turn with Linda Ronstadt. The animated character and the eclectic pop singer have recorded a duet of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” for the second Simpsons album, titled “The Yellow Album” and due for September release. This time Bart duets with C+C Music Factory. The Beach Boys are also among the guests. . . .
While Love and Rockets works on its next album, singer David J is putting out another solo album, which features a duet with his former Bauhaus mate Peter Murphy.
