Covina : Vietnamese Pig Ordinance

Under a new ordinance, one Vietnamese potbellied pig per household will be allowed on large residential properties where horses, cows and other large animals are kept.
The City Council on Tuesday approved the zoning code change at the urging of the Police Department’s animal control unit because of the increasing popularity of the animals as pets.
It will limit the swine to 95 pounds and require their registration and sterilization.
The keeping of pigs will be restricted to agricultural and estate residential zones. People who live on large single-family residential lots may obtain a conditional-use permit.
Other cities in the San Gabriel Valley, including South Pasadena and Monterey Park, have provisions allowing Vietnamese pigs.
