Respect for Lowery
Of all the congressmen, presidents, and popes I’ve written over the past 40 years, only Bill Lowery has responded in a substantive, intelligent way.
When I wrote to President Ford, lambasting him for pardoning our only “unindicted co-conspirator” I-Am-Not-A-Crook Nixon, Ford thanked me for my support in his forthcoming election bid! (The oaf never read the letter.)
When I wrote to President Carter, his daughter thanked my daughter for being her friend! (They’ve never met.)
Lowery’s letters and calls, in contrast, have all demonstrated a sincere interest in my concerns and proved that he or someone on his excellent staff had read my pleadings and complaints, and took the time to research a thoughtful response.
And all this for a constituent who never contributed to his campaign or voted for him.
Mr. Lowery and I differ on many issues. Yet, he still gets the highest grade for treating a Democrat as if he mattered.
