Abcarian writes that she’ll “start worrying when they introduce a baby doll that breast-feeds.” Although I realize she is being facetious, she promotes the view that breast-feeding is distasteful and best kept hidden from people, including children.
As a nursing mother, I’m a little tired of feeling I might offend people if I breast-feed my baby in public. I’m also a little tired of people giving my children dolls that come with bottles, pacifiers and other devices that undermine breast-feeding.
By the way, one of my daughter’s has a breast-feeding doll. The baby’s Velcro lips attach cozily to the mother’s nipple. I’m afraid your worries are too late.
