Doolittle Raiders

Thank you for the nice article on the World War II Doolittle Raiders (April 16). However, your statement regarding the city of Colorado Springs giving these goblets to the Raiders is not quite correct.
The goblets were presented to flying ace Jimmy Doolittle and the Air Force Academy at pregame ceremonies of the Air Force Academy vs. University of Arizona football game at Colorado Springs on Nov. 14, 1959.
The goblets were given to the Doolittle Raiders at their 17th reunion in Tucson in April, 1959. Chuck Arnold, the general manager of the Tucson Sunshine Climate Group, originated this idea and the citizens of Tucson furnished the silver goblets with the special storage case.
These goblets and their carrying case are kept at the Air Force Academy and it is my understanding that two Air Force cadets escort these goblets to the Doolittle Raiders reunions and the cadets get to spend time with the Raiders.
