WESTMINSTER — Ara Petrosian pitched a no-hitter to lead Fountain Valley past Westminster, 1-0, in a Sunset League baseball game Tuesday at Westminster High School.
Petrosian (4-2), a junior right-hander, struck out five, walked three and lowered his earned-run average to 1.25, said Coach Ron La Ruffa of Fountain Valley (13-10, 5-3 in league).
Petrosian is no stranger to close games, losing decisions to third-ranked Huntington Beach, 1-0, and 10th-ranked Ocean View, 3-2, earlier this season.
“With a little support, Ara would have a much better record,” La Ruffa said. “He’s had some tough losses, but he’s pitched consistently.”
Fountain Valley’s Joe Hudson drove in Mike Whetstone in the third inning for the game’s only run. Westminster is 4-4 in league.
