Region : Switch to 310 Area Code Set

Starting Saturday morning, it will be necessary to dial the area code on all phone calls between the 213 and 310 calling zones.
The 310 area was split off from the 213 zone on Nov. 2, 1991, but for the first six months it has not been necessary to dial the area code when calling from one zone to the other. After 2 a.m. Saturday, callers who do not dial the area code will be advised by a recording that they need to do so.
The 310 area extends along the coast from Malibu to Long Beach. On the Westside, the eastern boundary generally follows La Cienega Boulevard. Downtown Los Angeles and some surrounding communities retain the 213 code.
