2 Receive Fellowships to Study Humanities

A San Gabriel Valley teacher and principal have been selected as 1992 National Fellows for Independent Study in the Humanities by the Council for Basic Education.
Margaret E. Spiller, principal of Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, will study “Locality and Justice for the Oppressed in Selected Works in Steinbeck and Stegner.”
Jean H. Toh, an English teacher at John Muir High School in Pasadena, will study “Shakespeare’s Literary Influence on Verdi’s Operatic Art.”
They will each receive a $3,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for six weeks of concentrated independent study.
