The Food Distribution Center Serving Orange County has received a $10,000 grant from the Food Industry Crusade Against Hunger to expand its senior citizen grocery program.
The program supplies 1,296 seniors at 17 sites throughout the county with a free bag of groceries twice each month. Participating seniors are eligible to receive donations of cereals, vegetables, fresh produce, health care items and other products.
FICAH helps fund small, self-help programs to ease hunger with support from supermarket chains and food manufacturers. Funding for the distribution center grant was raised from consumers who contributed to the campaign at local grocery store check stands.
