Plight of U.S. Unions

I was struck (no pun intended) by two things in connection with the recent railroad strike:
-- If a union goes on strike, other unions are prohibited by law from helping it by boycotting the company; but when a railroad you never heard of is struck, it is perfectly legal for every railroad in the country to close down.
-- Although it normally takes from five or 10 years to forever for legislation beneficial to the general population to get through the process, legislation to end the railroad strike zipped through the House and Senate and the President’s office with dizzying speed.
