Vitesse May Report Loss for 3rd Quarter

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. of Camarillo said that preliminary financial results for its fiscal third quarter that ended June 30 were below expectations.
Vitesse said it might report a loss for the quarter. Revenue is now estimated at between $9.7 million and $10 million, only slightly more than the $9.6 million in revenue in the previous quarter.
The company blamed the lower-than-expected results in part on weakness in the Japanese market. Vitesse makes computer chips from gallium arsenide that are typically faster and more powerful than the more prevalent silicon-based chips.
